Laughter yoga mixes laughter with yoga breathing exercises.
I use laughter and breathing exercises every day to help keep me happy and calm. I use it with my clients to help them breakthrough depression and anxiety.
There are 3 big benefits of laughter yoga.
#1. Laughter Yoga Boosts Your Mood
According to the Laughter Yoga University website, one of the benefits is:
“Good Mood and More Laughter: Laughter Yoga helps to change your mood within minutes by releasing certain chemicals from your brain cells called endorphins. You will remain cheerful and in a good mood throughout the day and will laugh more than you normally do.”
ACTION STEP: Add more laughter to your life. Laugh anytime you can. Laugh when someone tells a joke, even if it is not funny.
You will be happier as you add more laughter to your life.
#2. Laughter Yoga Helps You Relax
Laughter creates relaxation. Yoga breathing exercises also help you be calm.
You can learn to relax yourself in 60 seconds with practice. Laughter and breathing exercises can help stimulate a relaxation response in your body. The more you do it, the faster you can relax. I can sometimes relax in less 10 seconds. This takes practice.
When you are laughing and consciously breathing, you can get out of your thoughts and your mind. You can come into the present moment and connect with your life. This will help you feel calm and centered.
When you are relaxed, you can think clearly. You can make choices. You can connect with your (the) power.
ACTION STEP: Try the humming breathing exercise. Breathe in through your nose and hum it out. This can help you relax in 60 seconds. You will get better with repetition.
The key: When you add more laughter and breathing exercises into your life, you will be calmer and more grounded.
You will enjoy your life more as you add more laughter and conscious breathing into your life.
Notice that depression and anxiety are reduced. Notice that you are happier.
It takes practice.
#3. Laughter Yoga Reduces Stress
You can learn to deal with stress. In the article “How to Manage Stress the Fun Way” by Sebastian Gendry:
“Laughter triggers the release of a cocktail of happy chemicals that boosts the immune responses, particularly components related to anti-viral and anti-tumor defenses. This cocktail includes NK cells, endorphins, serotonin, growth hormone, interferon-gamma (IFN) and a host of other beneficial substances produced naturally every time we laugh heartily for extended periods.”
So, you activate the release of endorphins by laughing. This reduces stress and boosts your mood. I don’t get sick. Laughing and breathing exercises help keep you healthy.
It helps if you can laugh for an extended period of time. You will find your joy😊.
ACTION STEP: Find ways to laugh for an extended period of time. This will help you get the biggest benefit. A laughter yoga class is ideal.
You can relieve depression and anxiety. You can experience peace and joy throughout your day. Adding laughter yoga to your day can boost your happiness😊!
